Question:

What would cause continued drooping of the upper eyelids even after eyelid surgery?

Answer:

There are two common causes of this problem. One is eyebrow position. A low brow will make the lid appear droopy even with no excess skin. In this situation a brow lift is necessary to open the lid, further skin removal will only make the situation worse. The second is lid ptosis which is a condition caused by stretching and weakness of the lid muscles, not the skin. Correction of the lid muscle is required to help this.

Question:

I am a 46 year old woman. I have a lot of wrinkles under my eyes which make me appear at least 10 years older. Is it safe to have Botox injections under the eye?

Answer:

Botox is safe in the crow's feet area and in very limited amounts in the lower lid. It will help dynamic lines caused by muscle contraction but not smooth fine lines that are already in the skin. Other modalities need to be considered for those.

Question:

At 40 I have what I feel is already very unattractive and low, droopy eyelids. I know that this can cause vision issues and was curious as to who determines when this procedure should be done? Can/do you or does an ophthalmologist make the determination?

Answer:

You need to see an ophthalmologist and have visual field testing done to see if your lids are causing a sight problem.

Question:

I think I need upper and lower lid blepharoplasty. I have large fat pads under my eyes that I would like take out. My upper lid is so hidden that I don’t bother using eye shadow any more. When the upper lid is operated on, does that help the crow’s feet at all? Or would I need to get another procedure?

Answer:

Blepharoplasty removes excess sagging skin and herniated fat pads. It does not affect crows feet other then improving some of the lateral hooding of the upper lid. Treatment of crows feet requires Botox, fillers and sometimes laser or other skin treatments.
