Question:

It’s been close to two weeks since my Botox treatment on my forehead. The lines in the middle of my forehead have disappeared, but the sides of the forehead lines are still present and look awful. Will this resolve itself or do I need to get this fixed?

Answer:

You are seeing the demarcation of the areas treated and untreated. You can have further Botox to relax more of these lines but the trade off will be a less expressive forehead.

Question:

I've always had a very expressive brow, which I suppose is part of the reason why I want a brow lift because now have many lines there. However, I'm worried that my brow won't be as expressive after surgery. Is this a concern?

Answer:

It is definitely possible. I would suggest a trial of Botox or Dysport before surgery and see how you like the effect. You can experiment with limited areas at a time and then consider surgery when you see what pleases you the most.

Question:

I am a 46 year old woman. I have a lot of wrinkles under my eyes which make me appear at least 10 years older. Is it safe to have Botox injections under the eye?

Answer:

Botox is safe in the crow's feet area and in very limited amounts in the lower lid. It will help dynamic lines caused by muscle contraction but not smooth fine lines that are already in the skin. Other modalities need to be considered for those.

Question:

Botox seems the way to go for me. I have lots of little wrinkles around my eyes and mouth. How do I find out if this is the right approach without coming into the office?

Answer:

Why deny yourself the opportunity for consultation with an expert? You may be a "do it yourselfer" for many things but you can cut through a lot of research time by taking advantage of complimentary consultation.

Question:

How temporary are the results from a round of Botox® injections?

Answer:

Botox® typically lasts between 4-6 months the first time it is injected. I find that if my patients repeat the treatment when they first see signs of it wearing off and before it is all gone that the next treatment will often last up to 9 months. It is important to keep the muscle weak and not let it recover completely to maximize the longevity of the effect.

Question:

I've read that an overdose of Botox® can be lethal. Would it need to be from a single shot or can a series of dosages over the years jeopardize the safety of the user? I only ask because my mother has probably been using Botox® for five years.

Answer:

Yes, Botox® can be lethal. It's so powerful in fact that the amounts used in people are incredibly small yet still have effect!. Overall though if you stick with a reputable physician who uses genuine Botox® cosmetic or Dysport sold in the US you shouldn't have a problem. Most people receive between 15-40 units at a treatmen. It would take 10-20 times that to be dangerous. Botox® effect is not cumulative, so when it wears off it's gone, you are starting from scratch.
