Question:

I've used topical lip plumpers and I love the result but the look doesn't last for long. Can I get the same look with injectable fillers?

Answer:

Yes and it will last you for 4-6 months.

Question:

I’d like to enhance the look of my lips but don’t want a full-on surgical procedure. What are some non-surgical options for a lip enhancement?

Answer:

The best choice for you is to start with a hyaluronic acid filler like Juvederm or Restylane. It's easily done in the office with no downtime. You can start with small amounts of augmentation and then increase it over a few weeks if you want to add more and best of all you burn no bridges, if you don't like it, it will be gone in 6 months.

Question:

Is there such a procedure as lip implants? And would they be a better option than injectable fillers?

Answer:

Lip implants are available. The advantage is in the permanent effect and elimination of need for repeat injections. The disadvantages are the same as with any implant-displacement, infection, unnatural feel etc.

Question:

I'm interested in getting lip augmentation to plump up my lips. What are my options?

Answer:

If you've never down this before I would recommend that you start with a hyaluronic acid filler such as Juvederm. This will give you a nice result, but is not permanent if you decide you don't like the change.

Question:
I've seen that dental blocks are often used for lip augmentation. What is a dental block?
Answer:
"Dental blocks" refer to injecting local anesthetic into the area where the nerve that gives you sensation emerges and thus anesthetizes the entire area without distortion and with one injection.

Question:

While I would love to have my lips enhanced, I am worried about possible complications. What type of filler do you use for lips and what are the problems associated with that filler? Can the filler be removed if the lips don’t look right?

Answer:

The best choice for you would be a hyaluronic acid filler (juvederm or restylane). It will only last a few months or if you really don't like it then it can be dissolved with hyaluronidase injection.

Question:

My lips have lost their fullness as I age. I would love lip augmentation and would like to know how you do this procedure. Does this require more than one session?

Answer:

Lip augmentation with filler is done in a single office visit. Some patients may request a touch up after 2 weeks or so if they find they want their lips even bigger or if there are slight asymmetries to correct.

Question:

I would like shapelier lips without surgery. Are silicone injections the only option for lip augmentation?

Answer:

I am very much against silicone injections. There is too much risk of reactions, lumps etc which will be permanent. Try one of the hyaluronic acid fillers first such as Juvederm or Perlane. The result is great but also reversible if it doesn’t meet your expectations.

Question:

I am a fifty year old woman and have had some problems with blood clotting in the past. Is this something I should take into consideration when I look into a lip augmentation procedure?

Answer:

Consult with your primary care doctor or a hematologist before having anything done. You are doing this electively to look better, not to have problems!
