Question:

I've heard that incisions for the necklift are sometimes located around the ear and other times under the chin. Where do you usually place the incision?

Answer:

Sometimes around the ear and sometimes under the chin and sometimes both. They are not mutually exclusive. It all depends on where the patient starts and where we want the result to end up.

Question:

What is the recovery like after the neck lift? What can I expect?

Answer:

Most patients experience a sense of tightness, swelling and bruising. Actual pain is usually minimal. Most of these symptoms subside after the first week or two.

Question:

What exactly does the necklift address? Is it just for sagging skin or are the muscles tightened too?

Answer:

All face and neck lift surgeries should and must include some form of underlying muscle/fascia tightening to be effective and lasting. Pulling skin only is a poor solution as it will sag again within a short time.

Question:

My main concern is the appearance of my neck, specifically loose skin like a turkey neck. Is it possible to have a necklift alone without the facelift?

Answer:

It is possible to have a neck lift alone however you must always keep in mind that all areas of the face are interrelated and need to be balanced. It is quite common for patients to believe that only one area needs treatment and that they will be satisfied if only that area is worked on. Afterwards other areas which they did not notice before are now more prominent and out of balance causing unhappiness and the need for further work which could have been done at the initial procedure.

Question:

I had a facelift two years ago in Seattle but I don't really feel like it did much for my neck. I’ve since moved to West Palm Beach and I’d like to address this. Is it possible to now have a necklift and where will the incisions be?

Answer:

It's hard to say without a direct exam, but depending on where your old incisions are they may be used as the site.

Question:

I've heard the terms cervicoplasty and platysmaplasty in reference to the neck lift. What are these? Are these types of necklift techniques?

Answer:

I would expect them to refer to neck procedures involving tightening of the underlying platysma muscle but the definition may vary from doctor to doctor.
