Scar Revision |

Do you give steroid injections as a part of your scar revision procedure? If so, does this have any potential for side effects?
Small amounts of kenalog (triamcinolone) are commonly injected into scars to soften and reduce them. There are virtually no side effects to this treatment when used judiciously.
I have an extremely large scar that travels from my upper lip to the bottom of my chin. How is this revised and will it take multiple sessions?
Without photos or an exam this is something I am unable to advise about.
A cut to the lip after a sports injury has left me with a very visible scar. Is it possible to minimize the appearance of a scar in this area, and would it be more painful than in another area?
Revising uneven traumatic lip scars is a very rewarding procedure for patients who typically will see a significant improvement. There is no additional discomfort in this area.
I’d like to get a large scar taken off on my forehead that I’ve had since a childhood accident. I’ve been embarrassed and self conscious about its appearance for years and I’m finally ready to get it removed. Will a scar revision procedure completely eliminate its appearance?
Scar revisions do not remove scars, they modify and camouflage them to make them less noticeable.
I am a woman with a high brow line. How can a forehead lift be performed on me so that my scars are not as visible?
Did you mean a high hairline? Forehead lifts are done to raise the brow line so if yours is already up I'm not sure it's the procedure you need. If it's your hairline you are worried about there is a technique called a "trichophytic" incision which blends the incision into the hairline so it's position is not altered.
I had an auto accident that left me with a very large, noticeable scar on my forehead. Do you use tissue expander to correct this? How long is the process?
Tissue expanders are used when there is going to be a planned large removal of skin which will not allow the remaining edges to be closed directly. If required, the process can take from 3 to 6 weeks.
Does scar revision really remove permanent scars, or just give them a faded appearance?
It is impossible to "remove a scar" without producing another one. Scar revision involves a variety of procedures which may include surgery to refine, relocate or camouflage the scar, dermabrasion, lasers or peels to lighten the color or change the texture and thickness of the scar. All are done to make the area more blended and "invisible" to the eye.
Is there such a thing as skin that is just too bad to fix? My thirty year old cousin has such terrible acne scars that I would be amazed if even a laser skin treatment would help clear him up.
Get your cousin to a physician who has a broad range of technologies available to them and the experience to apply them.
