Question:

I had a tummy tuck years ago and I loved the results. I've helped to maintain them by keeping in shape and eating well and doing regular abdominal exercises. I'm interested in getting a facelift and would like to know if there is anything afterward that I can do to help maintain the results similar to after my tummy tuck.

Answer:

It's very wise of you to think ahead like that. A good skin care regimen and periodic targeted Botox and filler will enhance and prolong the results of your surgery.

Question:

Do you recommend that patients apply ice to the face after facelift? If so, how often and for how long should this be done?

Answer:

Patients are instructed to apply cold packs for 20 minutes on then 20 off to each side while awake for the first 48 hours after surgery.

Question:

I am 68-years-old and I am seeking a facelift procedure, but I live alone and my family lives at least an hour away from me.  Is it possible to drive myself home after the facelift surgery?

Answer:

You need to have help for the first 24-48 hours after this procedure. For patients in your situation we generally offer two options. You can be discharged home with a driver and nurse or aid who will stay with you until you are able to care for yourself. You can be transferred to a recovery facility which is like a hotel/spa where you will be cared for and pampered as well if you wish (massage, manicure etc.)

Question:

I am scheduled for rhinoplasty and now I realize that I didn’t get all of my questions answered. After the surgery, what type of bandage is put on my face? Will it cover my eyes? Will I be able to change the bandage myself at home? How long does it have to stay on my face?

Answer:

My patients go home with a self adhering splint which covers the nose. It stays on for a week until I remove it and is not changed by the patient. The eyes are not covered. Most patients require a gauze "drip" pad under the nose which they have to change. This is typically only for the first 24-48 hours.

Question:

How long is the cast in place after rhinoplasty?

Answer:

Every surgeon has their own routine but typically 5-7 days is the average.
