Question:
I’ve been told that I will need an implant for my rhinoplasty. Are Goretex implants a good option?
Answer:
The use of alloplasts (synthetics) is an undecided issue in rhinoplasty. Many surgeons prefer to never use anything but the patients own cartilage or other tissue. Other surgeons throughout the world commonly use alloplasts without problem. There are many reports of successful use of gore tex as a dorsal augment. It’s probably safe to say that it is ok as long as you understand that there is an increased risk of infection and need to remove the implant vs your own cartilage.
