Is Asian rhinoplasty more often performed with an open or closed approach?

09/29/2011 by Dr. Michael Schwartz

Question:

Is Asian rhinoplasty more often performed with an open or closed approach?

Answer:

Asian rhinoplasty can be done either way. I have found that surgeons who use silicone implants with tip extension for Asian rhinoplasty seem to use a closed approach more often. Surgeon who are trying to create a more sculpted tip with the patients own cartilage seem to prefer open approaches. This would be my usual approach since I don’t like to use the silicone implants.
