I know that steroids like prednisone are sometimes prescribed to reduce swelling in the glands when people are sick. Are there steroids that would help reduce the swelling caused by a nose job?
Some doctors do routinely prescribe prednisone after surgery to reduce swelling in the immediate post operative period while others prefer to let nature take its course. There are pros and cons to each approach. Let your doctor explain why he or she follows their routine. There is no therapy without potential risk and swelling will go away with time. This is diferent then the use of steroid injections in the nose postoperatively to reduce swelling and prevent scar tissue formation which is also a commonly employed technique.
