It sounds like there are a lot of risks associated with the use of implants in rhinoplasty. Why would anyone then opt for an implant rather than using their own cartilage?
I tend to agree with this line of thought. However some patients just don’t want to have additional areas of their bodies operated on to get grafts. Implants are “ready out of the box” and are always perfectly shaped and smooth. Outside of the US many people receive then routinely. They are FDA approved and the majority of patients do well, but if you are the one who has the infection/shifing or extrusion you are going to be very unhappy and need further surgeries.
