Ive been interested in getting an eyelid lift and am curious as to how the procedure works. Could you describe what happens during surgery? How is the excess tissue and fat removed from the eye?
The first step in eyelid surgery actually takes place before going to the operating room. It is necessary to determine if the problem is excess or lax skin, excess fat, loose lid tone, abnormal position or some combination of all. During surgery incisions are made in natural “creases” of the lid skin which will hide and camouflage their appearance. Then depending on what was determined preoperatively, muscle may be tightened, fat reduced, repositioned or removed and finally skin redraped and possibly removed. Most patients elect to have these procedures under some form of sedation anesthesia so there is typically no consciuos awareness of these maneuvers having taken place.
