My daughter is 14 years old and a beautiful girl. However her nostrils have a slight flare to them and the other kids make fun of her and call her “nostrilla”, which is very distressing to her. Is she a candidate for rhinoplasty at this age or should we wait?
You should definitely wait. She is a little young for surgery both psychologically and physically. You should also be counseling her about motivation and self confidence. Facial appearance changing surgery is something that should be done out of a personal desire for improvement or change, not a response to bullying or an attempt to gain peer acceptance. Teens now more then ever need parental help in developing self esteem and resisting the kind of impossible “appearance” peer pressure that currently exists due to the media and internet.
