Question:
What is an adenoidectomy and can it be performed during rhinoplasty?
Answer:
Adenoids are lymphoid tissue present in the nasopharynx (the space connecting the back of the nose to the throat). They sit over the deep back openings of the nostrils and act as filters in childhood. They often shrink and disappear by age 12. If persistent and causing breathing or infectious problems they can be removed at the same time as rhinoplasty.
