What exactly is nasal packing? Is it always required after rhinoplasty and for how long?
Nasal packing refers to the use of gauze strips or tampons placed in the nostrils after nasal surgery either to support the repair or stop bleeding. While it is a commonly accepted practice I never use it. The new nose you create should not depend on packing for support. Living with it and having it removed is also one of the worst experiences patients are forced to have if it is a technique their doctor uses. I do everything in my power to avoid packing and spare my patients this torture.
